Abstract:
Myelolipoma is a rare hormonally inactive, benign tumor composed of
mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic cells. It frequently involves
the adrenal gland but could be located away from this organ in the
thorax, retroperitoneum, or presacral region. The extraadrenal lesion
may simulate other fat-containing benign or malignant lesions on cross-sectional
imaging. The author presents a case of a large left retroperitoneal
mass with positive technetium-99m sulfur colloid scintigraphic uptake
and histologic evidence of extraadrenal myelolipoma.
